Emerald lake
Thailand Koh Samui Ang Thong Marine Park

Emerald lake

Emerald Lake is a glorious saltwater lake surrounded with green foliage. The lake links to the sea via an underground tunnel, while above there is a 100-meter viewpoint to enjoy its glittering beauty. It is no wonder that Emerald Lake got its name from its color, but it is also known as other names such as the Blue Lagoon, Inner Sea, and Thale Nai. Visitors know it mainly as Emerald Lake, and it is not surprising that it is regarded as the signature sight on Koh Mae Ko. The lake is surrounded by majestic rainforest and limestone cliffs, recording a total size of 250 meters by 350 meters. A known fact of Emerald Lake is that it is formed in the crater of a dead volcano.

Visitors can experience the beauty of Emerald Lake by climbing a steep stairway where the magnificent view of the lake lies below waiting to be discovered. All the sweat and effort in climbing the steep stairway are definitely worth it when you take in the beauty of the still and calm waters of the lake, reflecting the sunlight. Several flights of steps are all it takes for you to reach the viewpoint over the lake, but visitors can choose to go down a few steps to get a closer look at Emerald Lake below. Although visitors can get closer, they are forbidden to swim as it is an essential effort to preserve the lake. Thus, it can be said that the lake is untouched as it is strictly off-limits where activities such as diving and snorkeling are strictly forbidden. Despite all that, the magnificent view and beauty of the lake make up for these limitations. One can even see the marine life that inhabits the lake, including urchins.
