The idyllic Surin Islands National Park is 60 km off the west coast of Phang Nga province. It is an archipelago of 5 islands: Koh Surin Nuea, Koh Surin Tai, Koh Ri, Koh Khai, and Koh Klang. With shallow waters in between, the color of the sea around islands is of incredible emerald color. Quite the opposite of nearby turquoise Similan Islands! Getting to know the real sea gypsies and even go fishing together is what attracts most visitors to come to Surin, as well as those hoping to find a quiet refuge from the tourist traps such as the Similans. Being an isolated archipelago, Surin is a peaceful haven for large schools of reef fish and ocean giants such as Whale Sharks, Manta Rays or Napoleon which can be observed swimming majestically in the blue. Best opportunities to snorkel with whale sharks are at pinnacle sites such as Hin Pae during February and March.
