Sihanoukville is the newest city in Cambodia established in 1960, seven years after Cambodia gained independence from France. The city is named after the then King Norodom Sihanouk. The former name of the area is Kampong Saom, while expats have other pet names for the city that you may hear including ‘Snooky’ and ‘Sinville’. Today, Sihanoukville is the fastest growing city in Cambodia. There are more and more luxury resorts that attract Asian travelers with its entertainment venues and casinos.
