The Fam Islands (also known as Pam among locals) became popular among adventurers because of Pyainemo (also known as Penemu), that is its largest island. The heart of Pyainemo is home to the scenic wonder known as ‘Hidden Bay.” Here you can take a short hike to the top of Penemu Hill to be awestruck by one of Raja Ampat’s most spellbinding views. Many mistake images of Pyainemo for Wayag that also features the karst seascape. Pyainemo a perfect alternative if your time won’t extend to visiting Wayag. Another exciting island in the archipelago is Yar Island. Yar is home to large flying foxes that hang out in camps high above the solid rainforest floor. The foxes feed on a diet of fruit and nectar from night-opening flowers, playing an essential ecological role by pollinating the plants and dispersing their seeds. This remote islands group contain some of the most beautiful coral reefs in Raja Ampat, including the Melissa’s Garden that is considered to be amongst the oldest and most pristine.
